It’s time to Build New Zealand.
Build New Zealand is a movement to shake Aotearoa out of drift and back into the habit of making, inventing, and exporting. We exist because we believe this country can be more than it’s been allowed to become.
New Zealand is one of the best places in the world to live. We shouldn’t have to choose between that and being a place where real things get built. With a bit of courage, we can have both.
Principles for a new national ambition.
- 01
Bias to build.
Capital should flow into productive enterprises like factories, farms, labs, and launch pads. Not just leveraged land.
- 02
Strategy over symbolism.
Not everything needs to be made here. Where sovereign capability matters, we build it. Where global trade works better, we trade.
- 03
Structural change.
Aotearoa needs big moves, not timid tweaks. Think decades, not electoral cycles.
- 04
Love of risk.
We need to celebrate risk-takers and treat failure as a price of invention, not a stigma.
- 05
Renew the Fair Go.
Egalitarianism and hard mahi are Kiwi values worth fighting for. They are the principles of a culture that builds together and shares the upside.
A cultural reset.
We have talked ourselves into smallness. We describe the country by its limits before its potential. Build New Zealand stands for a different story:
- 01
Celebrate builders.
Creating a company, running a workshop, shipping a product. These are acts of national service.
- 02
Stand against tall-poppy.
When a Kiwi has a go, we back them instead of dragging them down.
- 03
Community and connection.
Building isn’t just industry. It’s culture, arts, sport, and real communities of people who know each other.
- 04
Beauty matters.
Taste, design, and craftsmanship make things worth doing.
- 05
A country to be proud of.
Pride isn’t shouted. It’s shown in the things we make.
An economic imperative.
We are pro-growth, pro-productivity, pro-ambition. We believe this is achieved through markets, through state capacity, and through the everyday decisions of people willing to have a crack.
We have no patience for rent-seeking. We want abundant energy, efficient government, low-friction regulation, and fast-moving capital. We want it to be easy to start a company, ship a product, and hire the people you need.
We champion innovation, research, creativity, and ownership. We are a movement of entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists, artists, farmers, and tradespeople. Builders of every kind.
Building a new New Zealand Dream.
The old New Zealand Dream was a quarter-acre section and a steady job. It was a worthy dream for its time. The next one has to be bigger, and it has to include everyone.
A country that makes things. That exports ideas. That builds companies and cultural institutions that last. That inspires young people with work grander than themselves.
With a few bold choices, we can be defined not by what we extract, but by what we create.
Kia ora. It’s time to Build New Zealand.
Build with us.
Our community is open and ambitious. Entrepreneurs, tradespeople, creators, technologists, and makers of all kinds. People who back themselves and back each other.
High agency, high expectations, and a belief that we can build a better Aotearoa.
