A movement to reignite Aotearoa.
Build New Zealand is a movement and a mindset shift. A push to lift Aotearoa out of drift and back into the habit of making, inventing, and exporting.
Optimistic about this country.
Our kaupapa is to reignite New Zealand industry, creativity, and ambition, and to empower the next generation of builders with the belief that it’s worth doing here.
We believe we can be a nation that makes things, exports ideas, and builds companies the world admires.
A New Zealand Dream bigger than a house on a hill.
A nation that makes things, exports ideas as well as commodities, builds companies and culture the world admires, and leaves the next generation with more opportunity, not less.
Firing the productivity engine.
We want New Zealand’s productivity engine firing again. Specifically:
- 01 Lift real GDP per capita growth meaningfully over the next decade.
- 02 Double the number of export-capable companies started here each year.
- 03 Make Aotearoa one of the most attractive places in the world to build something ambitious.
These are starting points. We’ll sharpen the targets as the movement takes shape.
Bias to building.
Pessimism is easy. Building is hard. We choose the hard road because it’s the only one that leads somewhere new.
Less extraction, more invention.
We back people who create value, not people who simply collect it. We celebrate the ones having a crack.
Renew the Fair Go.
The Fair Go is a promise, not a slogan. It stays alive only in a country that makes things, shares the upside, and gives the next generation a real shot.
Dream bigger than the quarter acre.
A house with a lawn was a worthy dream. It isn’t enough now. The next dream has to be ours to build, and big enough for everyone.
Not left or right, but forward.
We don’t care which team gets the credit. We care whether the thing gets built.
Proudly from Aotearoa.
This place has shaped us. We carry it in our voices, our work, and our manaaki. A stronger country starts with being proud to stand up for it.
Is Build New Zealand politically affiliated?
No. Build New Zealand is explicitly non-partisan. We’re not aligned with any party or candidate, and we’re not a think tank or lobby group. We’re a movement for everyone who believes Aotearoa can make more, export more, and stand taller, regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum.
How are you funded?
Build New Zealand runs on donations, merchandise, and the time of volunteers. Every dollar goes into building the movement: digital infrastructure, events, essays, and projects that lift capability in New Zealand.
What does Build New Zealand actually do?
We’re at the start of the journey. We’re publishing essays, building data tools, running events, and backing builders. Sign up to the newsletter to follow along, or reach out if you want to help.
Who is behind the project?
A small team of volunteers and a growing circle of supporters: founders, engineers, tradespeople, writers, and researchers. We’ll share more as the team formalises.
How do I join?
If you want Aotearoa to build more, you’re already one of us. The fastest way in is to subscribe to the newsletter and tell us what you’d like to help with.
Build with us.
Our community is open and ambitious. Entrepreneurs, tradespeople, creators, technologists, and makers of all kinds. People who back themselves and back each other.
